Les Fleurs

I love flowers!  Every year I grow more. I love giving away bouquets and I love having fresh-cut flowers in the B & B.   Many have come and gone since Spring, but here are some of what’s in bloom in late August. I hope they put a smile on your face!

September 2, 2024 FINGER LAKES PRODUCE AUCTION Today I had the most fun I've had in a long time at the Finger Lakes Produce Auction in Penn Yan.  There are still auctions in September and November so check them out at: Fingerlakesproduceauction.com I got there right at 9:00 (next time I'll arrive earlier; the parking lot was packed!)  Since it was my first time, I walked around and checked out the merchandise (the nursery auction started at 9:00, produce at 10:00.)  I asked a friendly-looking gentleman what to do and he explained I had to go the office and get a ticket.  It is fascinating to listen to the auctioneer, and after a while, you get the idea of how to bid.  I scored six rosebushes for $3.50 each!  There were some shrubs that caught my eye, but I had already been there for two hours and they were a long way from getting to those shrubs. There is a food stand with all kinds of breakfast sandwiches, ice cream, and this day they had a chicken b...
MONTEZUMA NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE Another really interesting destination less than an hour from Aubergine Bed and Breakfast is Montezuma, right off Rtes. 5 and 20 in Seneca Falls.  If you love birdwatching, this is the place for you: over 9,000 acres of nesting spots and feeding areas for migratory birds.  There are walking trails, or you can take the 3.5 mile Wildlife Drive.  There is also a Visitor Center, observations towers and educational programs. For some reason I cannot upload this really cool picture I took of the statue of a bald eagle they have there, but visit their website and you can see what I'm talking about.  Better yet, come visit and take a day trip! www.fws.gov

Spotted Duck Frozen Custard

Anyone who knows me knows that ice cream is my favorite thing (well, maybe after creme  brûlée!). And Aubergine guests will attest to the fact that I always send them to Spotted Duck!  It’s right up the road, on Route 54.  Frozen custard is made with egg yolks and these delightful folks make theirs with duck eggs!  And the ducks (as well as geese and other birds) are right there on the property. They make amazing flavors, kids can have fun looking at the animals and they do flights!  Heaven!   spottedduckflx.com
